(5 of 55) The Strasbourg Calvin
Oil on wood. Unknown master of the 16th century - Measurements: 34 x 37 cm.

Half-length portrait of the Reformer with beard, cap and fur-trimmed cape, facing right, perhaps at the age of 32 when he was in Strasbourg in 1541. The painting was discovered in an art dealer's shop in Strasbourg in 1994 and identified as a portrait of Calvin by Rev. Lienhardt. Today it hangs in the Musée du Protestantisme Francais in Paris.
